Haunted House

Time to start thinking about Halloween and how you are going to scare your neighbors or impress them.

You could go the gentle route and have some nice fall inspired decorations like hay stacks or bales and pumpkins lining your steps or walkways.  Glowing lanterns are always a nice touch as well.  Smiling scarecrows bring a human-like spirit.  Here's a nice example:

Or...you could go the fun and scary way, with monsters, ghouls, ghosts and cemeteries.  Black cats and spiders are a favorite of mine.  Loud noisemakers always attract a lot of attention especially with strobe lights bright enough to light up the street out front.  Glowing pumpkins with frightening faces either in the porch windows or on the front steps are especially thrilling.  Here's our attempt at the front porch:

I love this holiday!  It's the one time you can dress up any way you want and not have to explain yourself.  Also, it's the only time you can legitimately scare your kids and get away with it!  All kidding aside, it is a great time of year to have fun, take the kids trick-or-treating, having costume parties and with friends and family.  I hope yours is as fun and scary as ours will be.

For safety sake, remember to also go out in groups, carry a flashlight or what's even better is wearing glow sticks.  Parents, go through the candy, too.
